GirlTalk 2011 - "Where Girls Can Speak Their Truth"
Program and Services

What is GirlTalk?

GirlTalk is a program created by Lakita Long, and started off about 11 years ago, after having a bed side chat with her then 15 year old neice, about some decisions that she stated that she wanted to to do which was totally contrary to what she originally wanted for her life.  At that time,GirlTalk was birthed, and she has been talking with young girls every since.

GirlTalk program is a movement and below is our vision, purpose, and mission.

Vision: To see more than 10000 girls per year impacted all over the world learning how to talk about hard subjects, and learning to deal with difficult things that may have already happened to them in their life.

Purpose:  To ignite a movement amongst girls to make informed, principled decisions about the most important issues in their life.  To ensure that they have the necessary tools to make those decisions, and that they become change agents in the process.

Mission: To motivate, inspire, train and teach girls between the ages of 8-21 years old, how to talk about, identify and deal with issues that could affect the way they live their life.  It is our help to use and leverage resources that are available for teenage girls to further their development physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.

GirlTalk Conference is a program of Inspiring You Ministries, which is a Non-profit that teaches and trains individuals how to become empowered, educated and inspired to use biblical principles with mainstream information to bring motivational change in people.  The GirlTalk Conference focuses on girls between the ages of 8-21 years old, and who desire to have an opportunity to foster positive relationships by identifying what their strengths and areas of improvements are in order to have better conversations with themselves and others.

We believe that what one talks about generally tells you what they know, and we want girls everywhere to know the TRUTH about themselves, and about others.  At the core of the conference are the following topics:

1.    Shame
2.    Deception
3.    Beauty (self-image)
4.    Purpose and Destiny

To further equip the young ladies we have added the following topics for the GirlTalk Conference 2009.  The need to add these topics were to ensure that girls have the necessary tools to be able to change their mind should they desire:

5.    Unprotected Sex, Unprotected Consequences
6.    Not going to school/Low Academic Achievement
7.    Dead beat relationships/ Unhealthy Relationships
8.    Drug and Alcohol

Do you need to talk with someone about your teenage daughter, but don't have time for traditional counseling sessions?  Then GirlTalk Coach is for you.  A coach is someone who guides and supports other people on their life and work journey.  Let us help you create a more harmonious time with your teenage daughter.  You will have the opportunity to enjoy GirlTalk Coaching sessions in your home, or place of choosing.  The sessions are confidential and follow strict professional ethics and observe privacy issues. Most sessions will be with Dr. Lakita Long and other assigned GirlTalk Coaches unless otherwise indicated at the time of consultation.

GirlTalk Coaches are trained in a variety of topical areas such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, trauma issues, bullying, adolescent development and parenting education.  GirlTalk Coaches have degrees and are, knowledgeable in mental health, counseling, social work, law, youth advocacy, nutrition, image development, relationship building and adolescent strategies. We are not medical doctors and thus will not be giving any advice regarding ailments that you are currently dealing with, but will only talk on the subjects that we have the scope to do so.

GIRLTALK CONNECT

While it is still being developed, GirlTalk Connect started as a result of adding the 18-21 year old age group at the conference and is designed to provide follow-up to these ladies in a "Village Style Mentorship" process, where one mentor, would have at least 3 girls that they would mentor in a group way, providing resources for school, connecting with the girls parents to keep a healthy relationship going or helping to establish one and to provide an avenue where girls can talk their truth, and change their minds.

GirlTalk Program is richly connected with many different industries, and resources, who are and have been providing their services for free in the areas of: Law, Mental Health, University Education, Fashion and Beauty, Corporate Business Strategies, Politics, Women Leadership and International Non-Profit involvement.

It is our desire to reach out to as many as possible and create alliances with other programs and organizations who want to help girls become developed in a wholistic way: physically, mentally, spiritually and psychologically.  Not excluding one for the other, but including all for the betterment of the whole person.
